Jack's Jokes

When Jack was about 6 he wrote a little joke book with cute little clip art illustrations. He would probably be embarrassed that I'm sharing it here and would find fault in his corny, little-kid humor, but oh well; I'm the mom, it's my blog, and I could use a smile today:

Q: What did the tree eat for breakfast?

A: OAK MEAL!

Q:What kind of plant isn't really a plant?

A: A POWER PLANT!

Q:Why were the scissors a bad student?

A: BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS CUT IN LINE!

Q:What do you call a mean kid?

A: A BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD GOAT!

Q: When does ginger ale taste the best?

A: WHEN YOU ARE DRINKING IT!

Love and hugs to you!

I just today found your blog. I very seldom make blog comments but continue on my way being a lurker. Today is different. I want to say a million things to you, and yet, I can't think of a single thing.
Your Jack is the age of my grandchildren, so maybe I think of you as my child. No child should have to suffer the way you are.

I have the highest admiration for you and your family. No one teaches us how to handle sorrow, each has their own way. Whether you need to scream obscenities to whomever will listen or crumble to the floor in prayer, do what you have to do to get through another day.

I know you're tired of hearing "Time will heal," but it really does. Believe me.

Bless you, Rose

I love the jokes and the photos, especially that first one when he's just a little kid with all his baby teeth, grinning. You don't know me but you are in my prayers. Your boy has touched my heart greatly.

I am always struck by how handsome your Jack is....a beautiful boy.

My three-year-old's current favorite is:

Why do chickens sit on eggs?

Because they don't have chairs!

I think Jack would have liked that one too.

I think about your family more than you would ever imagine. It makes my heart sick in a way I cannot even begin to explain. And then it makes me more sick to think of what your heart feels and how much you hurt. I know I cannot even begin to imagine. I wish there were words. There aren't. I know that with each post you share more about that little boy and the inner workings of your family. I love getting to know him. I know you and Jack and your family are touching someone and helping them out of their darkest place.

love his sense of humor. love how you have family life so well documented. a reminder, at least for me, to embrace today and to keep that diary, take those pics and hold on to all the papers. bless you and your family.

Hahaha. I'm going to pass these along to Mooch, who also makes her own jokes. Maybe they will up her game a little, because his are actually funny. The ginger ale one was my favorite. As are all the pictures. I second the notion of blue popsicle day and would definitely post some pics in honor of Jack.

I love the blue lips, Anna (in addition to the jokes, of course)! He must have had a blue flavor ice or other snack before some of those photos were taken. :)

Thinking of and praying for you all,

Your Cousin, Emily R.

All the pictures are so adorable but for some reason profile pictures always get to me. The profile picture of Jack is so innocent and pure. It makes my heart ache. I hope our prayers lift you when you are really down. I pray and think of your family many times a day.

Love the jokes. My kids were cracking up. I'm sure they will be telling them today at school.

The mean kid/bad goat joke at 6 years old? Incredible!

Btw, your neighborhood looks so pretty and comforting in that last photo. What a perfect home and setting for Jack and Margaret to be raised in.

Love and hugs to YOU, Anna!

So cute with his little baby teeth. Are his lips blue in the last two pictures (from eating candy or something)?

He was a clever kid from early on.

Those are HILARIOUS! I laughed out loud! After everyone's reaction in the comments, I bet he'd be secretly proud and think, "yeah. I'm pretty stinkin' funny, and I know it." :)

I'm a big fan of the oak meal.

Praying for you, Anna. And your wonderful husband and amazing daughter.

Laura said...

Ugh.
I want to squeeze him. Especially that boy I'm seeing in the second picture. I can't even begin to imagine the profound hurt in your heart. I can just hope that all the thoughts and prayers - and special signs from Jack - help ease it somewhat.

I happened to be searching for a few corny jokes for my students' class newspaper and stumbled across 'Jack's Jokes.'

Well done, sir Jack...

I see Kristina P. frequents your site, so it must be a good place!

I can't wait till the day you get to hear his jokes again, whispered in his own voice into your ear.

I want this for you.
